Today NHS England released the results from the first year of opt-out HIV and hepatitis testing in hospitals in areas with a very high HIV prevalence. The data shows the programme success is surpassing all expansions and exposing the postcode lottery in hospital testing. The government must fund opt-out HIV testing for the next tranche of A&E departments – high prevalence areas now – as the government’s own guidance recommends, that’s the conclusion of five leading HIV and hepatitis charities.

The current guidance on handling blood products in the workplace needs to be updated to prevent discrimination against people living with HIV. Our Discrimination Advice and Support Service has received several reports from people living with HIV faced discrimination in different private service settings including: tattoo parlours, piercing shops, cosmetic surgery clinics and laboratories testing blood samples for private services and clinical trials.

UKHSA has announced that they are exploring fractional dosing for Monkeypox.

Deborah Gold, Chief Executive of National AIDS Trust, said:

“We welcome UKHSA’s exploration of fractional dosing for Monkeypox. If rolled-out, this will increase the number of at-risk people getting a monkeypox vaccine, and should mean the supplies the UK has will meet immediate need, helping to address global vaccine supply issues.”
