National AIDS Trust appoints Public Health England’s Jane Anderson CBE as new Chair of Trustees

The National AIDS Trust (NAT) has appointed Professor Jane Anderson CBE as its new Chair of the Board of Trustees, due to start in post from 22 March.

Deborah Gold, Chief Executive, National AIDS Trust, said: “We are delighted that Professor Anderson has chosen NAT. After nine years of excellent leadership by Dame Denise Platt, I have no doubt we will have many more with Jane at the helm. We have many challenges ahead and with Jane’s experience and skills we are in a better place than ever to overcome them.”

On 21 March, NHS England announced it was pulling the plug on its decision-making process on whether to make PrEP available (an HIV prevention drug, proven to be effective in stopping HIV transmission in almost every case if taken properly). This was after 18 months of hard work which demonstrated the need, efficacy and cost-effectiveness of PrEP from an NHS working group comprising experts from across the HIV sector.

The charity has launched a crowdfunding appeal in order to raise vital funds to cover their legal costs for the appeal. NHS England is appealing the ruling that said they unlawfully cut PrEP, the drug which prevents HIV transmission, from their commissioning process.
