When

Tuesday, May 23, 2023 - 10:00 to 12:00

Do you work in an HIV support service in England? Come along to our free webinar on Tuesday 23rd May and learn how to support people living with HIV who are experiencing discrimination in private services.

People who have accessed our HIV Discrimination Advice and Support Service have reported that private services are some of the most commons areas in which they have faced discrimination. Some may be denied access to services such as tattooing, piercing or cosmetic surgery, or be charged extra money to access these services. This is HIV discrimination, and it is illegal.

It can be hard to know if a person has experienced discrimination, or how they go about bringing through a discrimination claim. Our webinar, with a legal expert guest speaker, will take you through the process and help you to better understand how to help your service users to deal with discrimination in private services.

The programme for the session will include:

  1. Intro exercise: What does HIV discrimination look like?

  1. Summary of relevant aspects of Equality Act 2010 and what is defined as HIV discrimination in private services.

  1. How to check Legal Aid eligibility and costs for bringing a claim

  1. How to bring successfully bring a claim to court (Legal expert guest speaker & Q&A)
