Do you work in an HIV support service in England? Come along to our free webinar on Thursday 15h June and learn how to support people living with HIV who are experiencing discrimination in healthcare and other public services. 

People who have accessed our HIV Discrimination Advice and Support Service have reported that they have faced discrimination in healthcare and public service settings. This includes people living with HIV have reported being refused a dentist appointment or having their status disclosed without their consent by officials in Government services. This is HIV discrimination, and it is illegal. 

It can be hard to know if a person has experienced discrimination, or how they go about bringing through a discrimination claim. Our webinar, with a legal expert guest speaker, will take you through the process and help you to better understand how to help your service users to deal with discrimination in healthcare and other public services. 

The programme for the session will include: 

  1. Intro exercise: What does HIV discrimination look like? 

  1. Summary of relevant aspects of Equality Act 2010 and what is defined as HIV discrimination in healthcare/public services. 

  1. When to signpost individuals to further support services 

  1. How to check Legal Aid eligibility and costs for bringing a claim 

  1. How to bring successfully bring a claim to court (Legal expert guest speaker & Q&A) 

  1. Exercise: Worked example of discrimination in healthcare/public services 

  1. Case studies of HIV discrimination in healthcare/public services & how they were resolved
