Equal HIV Fertility Access Now
“The fertility ban ends any possibility of me starting a biological family. It’s unbelievably cruel and stigmatizing," Noel.
The HIV fertility ban cruelly prevents people like Noel starting a family of their own. It is discriminatory, has no basis in science and we urgently need your support to overturn it.
Your donation will help us fight the ban and win equal fertility rights for Noel and everyone living with HIV.
Noel's story
Noel has always dreamed of being a father. He was shocked and saddened to learn he is barred from accessing IVF and can't have the future he wants.
“People living with HIV should be given a fair chance to start a family,” he told us. “It’s very painful to know that although I am not able to transmit HIV through fertility treatment, I’m still prevented from using it.”
“HIV has never stopped me doing anything before. To come up against a scenario where you and the doctors know you can’t possibly pass the virus on yet still face prohibition doesn’t make any scientific sense. It feels very strange.
“It’s the first time I’ve had to confront real prejudice and stigma with my HIV in such a direct way.”
Your donation has the power to help us fight for justice for Noel and everyone living with HIV.
HIV Fertility Rights - The Issue
People living with HIV can’t donate eggs or sperm to someone they aren’t in an intimate, heterosexual relationship with.
This means many LGBTQ+ people, like Noel, are prevented from starting a family. And heterosexual people living with HIV can't use a surrogate.
The law is discriminatory. We are fighting to change it.
