Rights, Equality & Discrimination

The issue:

HIV stigma leads to discrimination and affects the way that many people living with HIV feel about themselves. It drives the epidemic because it stops people talking about HIV, getting tested and accessing treatment. Discrimination in employment, in services and even in healthcare is all too common, despite being illegal.

What we do:

National AIDS Trust challenges stigma and seeks to make society more equal for people living with HIV. We monitor knowledge and attitudes towards HIV and use our research on how to challenge stigma to drive change. Where we find discrimination we campaign for policy change or try to change practice. We give advice and support to HIV organisations that support people experiencing HIV discrimination via our Discrimination Helpline for HIV Support Staff.
