George Michael Expresses Fears About Taking HIV Test
Following George Michael's remarks on getting tested for HIV during his interview on Stephen Fry's BBC Programme 'HIV and Me', Deborah Jack, Chief Executive of the National AIDS Trust, comments:
"George Michael in his interview expressed some very natural fears about getting tested for HIV, which many people share. Although getting an HIV test can be a daunting process, it is worth finding out your status, as the earlier you are diagnosed the better the outlook for your own health and the less likely you are to infect other people.
George's comments do highlight the importance of promoting accessible HIV tests to those possibly at risk. With one in three people with HIV in the UK unaware they are infected, there is a need for increased investment and a fresh approach to HIV testing in this country. The National AIDS Trust is keen to work with the Government on new testing strategies so that there is an increased uptake of HIV tests among those who think they may have been infected".
