Schools and colleges

Schools, Colleges and Universities are some of our top fundraisers! This year we need you to help us smash our target of 45,000! Fundraising is a great opportunity to get people working together and to raise awareness of HIV.

How you can help

There are loads of ways your school or university can help us raise money. You could make us your charity of the year and hold a number of fundraising events. For ideas on what works click here.

Last year schools, colleges and universities all over the country took part in different fundraising activities - there were non-uniform days, fashion shows, concerts and many more!

Individuals also fundraise outside school and uni. In September, Tyrone Takirwa raised over £150 by taking part in a sponsored "stay awake". He was sponsored by friends and family to stay awake for twenty-four hours. Well done Tyrone!

NAT has developed a resource for teachers - it includes HIV facts, Key Stage three and four lesson plans and great assembly ideas. Use it to educate people and get them interested and involved. Download our schools pack here.

See how you're doing

Keep us informed about what you're doing and send us photos of your event. Our top fundraisers for World AIDS Day 2008 will appear here, so keep your eyes peeled!

Farlingaye High School and Cheney School were are top fundraising schools last year - with each of them raising over £,1000!  Well done to everyone involved!

Ellie Ratcliffe reports from Oxford High School about how they marked World AIDS Day...

To raise money and awareness for HIV, our school participated in World AIDS Day by having a Red Accessories Day. Both pupils and staff paid £1 in advance for a red ribbon, which they wore on the day as well as a red accessory of their choice.

Everyone loved decorating their uniform. The younger girls spent days planning what they would bring.

“It was really cool and I wore my red cowboy hat and my red converse boots!”
Emily, Year Seven

The sixth formers could wear red entirely, and the teachers joined in too. There were some very original ideas, but everyone wore the red ribbon.

Our Headmistress commented on how fantastic everyone looked during a special assembly in the morning, and decided that a photo should be taken to commemorate the event. We raised a total of £317.21 and everyone really enjoyed it.

Recycling appeal

There is now a way you can fundraise without asking for money - donate your old mobile phones and printer cartridges and Recycling Appeal will turn them into money for NAT. Click here to find out how to join in.
