National AIDS Trust appoints Public Health England’s Jane Anderson CBE as new Chair of Trustees

The National AIDS Trust (NAT) has appointed Professor Jane Anderson CBE as its new Chair of the Board of Trustees, due to start in post from 22 March.

Professor Anderson will take the role on as NAT’s current Chair, Dame Denise Platt, stands down after nine years.

Professor Anderson is widely regarded as a leader in the HIV sector. She is currently a consultant physician in HIV Medicine at Homerton Hospital and is expert adviser for HIV, Sexual and Reproductive Health at Public Health England.

She started working in the field of HIV in the early 1980s when the first people with AIDS and with HIV were being seen. Jane is the immediate past Chair of the British HIV Association (BHIVA).

Professor Anderson says: “This is a crucial time for the HIV sector. Infection rates continue to rise, the UK health economy is undergoing unprecedented change and funding for HIV prevention, support and care is at significant risk. This is happening at a time when we know there is a serious lack of awareness and understanding of the infection amongst the general public and the communities at particular risk.  NAT is at the forefront of these issues and is a crucial part of the solution to reversing the UK HIV epidemic. I am very excited to be joining the team.”

Deborah Gold, Chief Executive, National AIDS Trust, said: “We are delighted that Professor Anderson has chosen NAT. After nine years of excellent leadership by Dame Denise Platt, I have no doubt we will have many more with Jane at the helm. We have many challenges ahead and with Jane’s experience and skills we are in a better place than ever to overcome them.”
