Statistics

HIV statistics in the UK are compiled by the Health Protection Agency (HPA). These include figures for people seen for HIV treatment and care in the UK, as well as total figures for people living with HIV, which are estimates based on unlinked, anonymous blood testing (where samples cannot be traced back to individuals).

Internationally, HIV statistics are gathered by the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS). UNAIDS estimates are based on all available data including surveys of pregnant women, population-based surveys, and other surveillance information.
