In some parts of the world the prevalence of HIV amongst sex workers is significantly higher than in the general population. However, in the UK this is not the case.

In general, sex workers are more at risk from HIV infection because they have a higher number of sexual partners. It is therefore important that sex workers protect themselves and their partners from HIV infection through the consistent use of condoms.
